// Journal
Hello and how do you do? It’s very nice to meet you here, in the pages of my Journal — the place where my brain spills its contents in tidy little blog posts so you don’t have to rummage through the recycling bin of my thoughts. Here I record everything from earth-shattering revelations (the biscuit tin is not, in fact, bottomless) to microscopic musings (should plants be charged rent for sunlight?).
No subscription, no secret handshake, no complicated ritual — just open access to my diary-shaped ramblings. Browse at will, linger on the questionable poetry, chuckle at the minor catastrophes, and feel free to leave with more questions than you arrived with. If nothing else, I promise a light entertainment warranty and at least one genuinely awkward anecdote per visit.

The Highways Department
The sun is shining, the fish are taking their ease under the shade of the lilypads in the pond, the birds are singing and our resident crow has brought his latest kill to dismember in the bird bath, leaving me the entrails as my thank you present. Truly, I think I could live without them…
Blame it on the Weather
For once in our lives, peace and harmony has reigned in the homestead - mainly because I have had my head down working industriously to finish off my crime novel, so have had no occasion to get into bother with anyone, which, quite frankly, is nothing short of a miracle…
Too good to be true? I’ve got the scammers blues - My New Crime Novel ‘RETRIBUTION’
All has not been well in my Yorkshire Wolds world. Here, in a quiet, rural corner of North Yorkshire, the bad side of the internet rears its extremely ugly head. A very clever literary scam has been tried on me and possibly an attempt to steal my book…

To Nest or not to Nest… That is the Question.

Oh dear, what can the matter be?
I am very well and thankful that I am here at all after my little escapade during the week. Also, I'm thankful that Spouse is speaking to me at all. He is … just. So, what happened to bring this state of affairs about? …
The Lady in the Red Car
For some weeks now, a mysterious woman in a red car has been tooting and waving at Spouse if their paths cross anywhere in the village. Mysteriously, I am never with my spouse when these events occur…
ROLL UP, ROLL UP ! For the Pothole Lottery
The snowdrops are out but it is still grey and gloomy and spring seems far away. Recently the temperatures plummeted and the frost and snow lay deep and crisp and very uneven…
Renewing a Prescription
All I had to do was fill out a repeat prescription form, toddle up the road to the medical centre with it and hand it in at the Reception desk. Or, so I thought…
